“Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” Matthew 28:5-6
More joyful words have never been spoken.
For indeed, the Son of God conquered death. He bore our transgressions, he carried the weight of our sin and rose so that we might have life.
What I love most about this passage of the Resurrection narrative is that Matthew tells us he has risen “…just as he said.”
Those closest to him heard the words, but they did not understand. They were surprised, who wouldn’t be? But we now know what he meant.
We have a God who keeps his promises. We have a Savior who does just what he says. Jesus tells the truth.
For He told us this would happen, that the impossible would come to pass.
Christ foretold his passion, death and resurrection.
He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
Luke 9:22
From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
Matthew 16:21
He will be handed over to the Gentiles and he will be mocked and insulted and spat upon; and after they have scourged him they will kill him, but on the third day he will rise.”
Luke 18:32-33
He told us the hard part of the story, he told us about the suffering – but he also told us how the story would end.
God keeps his promises.
He is risen, just as he said.
